Oshkosh 2010

Yes, I know, I’m a bit late with this post.  I took over 600 images during the three days the boys and I were there.  it just took a while for me to get through them.  2010 was also the 75th anniversary of the DC-3, so there was almost 30 of them scheduled to be there. I’ve jumped out of a couple in my younger years, and I love the way a radial engine sounds, nothing like it.

This isn’t going to be an “aviation” post, I’m a photographer, not an airplane guy. I’m not going to try and list the names or specs of all the different aircraft I’ve captured here (I doubt I could anyways, I have a hard enough time remembering different models and year of cars, and I work in the auto industry).

Cameron, Jonathan and myself met up with a couple of my uncles and we rented a house that was about 15 minutes from the airfield, so we had a nice place to sleep and shower at the end of a hot, sticky day. We arrived early Tuesday evening, after the rain had already passed through.  We went to the field on Wednesday morning, wandered around a bit, and got to see the first flight of dc-3’s fly over the airfield and then come in for a landing.

We pitched some lawn chairs next to the taxiway, and watched them all come in. I clicked away for about 40 minutes as they landed one after another. It’s amazing to watch something that big come floating down to the ground as slow and easy as they did.

Later on that day some type trainers did a flyby and then landed.  I think these are at-6 Texans (googled the images, I had to try and figure out what they were, and that’s what I came up with).

Thursday there was a lot of different airshows scheduled, so we again picked out a space next to the taxiway and spent the afternoon plane watching. Filled up a couple more memory cards, got mildly sunburned, ate marginally good food and generally just had great day.

All in all, we had a great time, but after three days in the hot sun, we were ready to head back.  We left Saturday morning after having breakfast with my uncles and headed to Michigan.

Didn’t think it would take me sooooo long to get these images posted, and I have no excuse, but here they are.  To see the rest of them, head over to my online gallery.
